CENTEX OVERVIEW
Genevieve’s Favorites in and around Central Texas
Let me help you simplify your life and the CenTex home buying and selling process!
One of my favorite things about helping people buy or sell a home is being a valued resource for vendors, and identifying cool stuff to do and see around the area. Just as I have been able to pull together an arsenal of the top professionals in their fields who are ready to help my clients achieve their needs from accountants to xeri-scapers, I have some favorite shops- both online and around town! Check them out and ask me for more details. I'm always happy to share my favorites to grow the local community businesses.
Local and Awesome
I grew up just West of Lake Travis, so having a deep knowledge and understanding of the old and new gems of these rolling Texas hills, I will add more as I discover them.
So you want to thrift? Here are my favorites for you:
Room Service - a bit of everything
Top Drawer- better furniture
Uncommon Objects- best curios and object, as the name suggests with a good mix of fine art and antiques for true collectors.
Poppi Vernon- in Wimberly, this small shop curates amazing displays and lots of western kitsch.
Austin Antique Mall next to skateland. Actual antique mall with everything from fine art to true antiques. Set up with interior booths in a somewhat conditioned space.
You heard TexMex is a must, but have you tried Interior Mexican or OLD School Austin staples?
Curra’s for interior - try the caldo tlapeno, it will cure what ails you. They are famous for avacado margaritas… like a big green smoothie.
Polvo’s for interior- seriously good Mexican food.
Matt’s El Rancho- More than 70 years as an Austin stand by. Matt himself used to meander the restaurant floor and greet customers. Known for their true Tex-Mex and famous margaritas. Sit on the patio and enjoy the fountain.
SoCo is fantastic for shopping and mural instagram snaps. It has definitely evolved since I was a kid. Shopping, dining and fun.
Make sure you stop by Guerro’s Taco Bar.
Photograph yourself outside the Kendra Scott Flagship store’s adorable “you’re the yee to my haw” mural.
Relax with a drink at the Hotel San Jose with the VERY specific looking marquee. You can’t miss it.
If you feel you must go to 6th Street, The Driskoll is an iconic and beautiful hotel with a fabulous restaurant and bar. Have some cake. If you can do a day for the high-tea… it is special.
If someone asks where to get a burger: Casino El Camino rockabilly bar on 6th. You will be quite pleased. It is more adult- there are usually adult themed movies playing on the large tvs if you get my drift.
Mt. Bonnell is a place of magnificent views and happens to be where Drew proposed to me. Awwwwhhh.
Lady Bird Wildflower Research Center is a beautiful garden, there is a fee, unless you have reciprocal membership with another garden center.
Barton Springs (like the actual pool at Zilker park): you don’t have to get in this constant temperature pool to be impressed with it’s activity and the glory of the aquifer.
Online and Attainable
Once you get settled in your home, you are totally going to want to feather your nest. Here are some wonderful resources for putting your dream home together, now and into the future.
Uncrate: Love this modern, fun, hipster collection of awesomeness!
Houzz: Maybe the best place for finding ideas for your home, new or otherwise creating your dreams and organizing said ideas!
Gilt: Uhm, hello?! It's like Bluefly got an upgrade. Did it even need an upgrade? No, but it got one.
